First, I've read the previous novels in this series & enjoyed them. This particular story seems disorganized in the opening chapters. The story takes a while to take shape & I could feel the author searching for connections. That doesn't mean I'll give up on the writer or the series. Thankfully, Halloween finally arrives, the city council picks the site for the community center, & the election is over...those parts work. It's the long meander through the cat neutering scenes (that had been covered in the previous book) & Auggie's struggle with his cat history (good material but needed trimming) after that's behind us things are once again enjoyable. I'm looking forward to the next novel in the series. Gratitude to the writer who doesn't quit. I have come to look forward to each new book in the Season series. Melinda's move from the city to a small farm was a bold move but she has settled in nicely. Reading about her animals and even her chores gives me a sense of comfort as I loved visiting my uncles' farms as a child. I am confused about the size however since she refers to having acreage, but at one point I read that she had only two acres. In the mid west and south many city lots are that large.The town of Prosper, and especially the family hardware store, allows us to get acquainted with Melinda's family and many friends, as well as life in a very small rural community.This was not my favorite of the series as I felt the ending was very abrupt, but by now I feel like Prosper is my town and its citizens are my friends. I will miss them when the series ends.
