When the Storm Breaks is one emotionally-charged book! Emery Rose doesn't hold back as she tells the touching tale of Brody McCallister and Shiloh Leroux and the love they fight hard for no matter who or what gets in their way. Both fiercely loyal and full of fire, from the first time they meet, it's a passionate battle of wills that I found hard to put down. And now I've read those last words, I'll have just as hard a time letting go.The rock star and her cowboy. I loved watching these two opposites find the perfect cadence with each other that took each by surprise, yet felt perfectly right just the same. Although from vastly different worlds, both Shiloh and Brody hid out in the open holding onto all the pain they endured as children and young adults. The spiritual component was a great addition when both of these stubborn souls could feel each other like no one else could and a few coincidences put themselves in one another's path through the years. Talk about made for each other, I like to think much like Shiloh does, that their love was destined in the stars or perhaps just at the knee of a wise Maw-Maw.What is wonderful for me is that we get all the missing components of what really did transpire between Brody and Lila as he finally comes to grips with his feelings and love for the mother of the adorable Noah. This book filled in all the holes I was still curious about in When the Stars Fall and it also brought a ton to light wrt Patrick, Kate and the rest of the McCallister crew. More than a few tense moments come to a head but Rose allows Brody and Jude, in particular, to finally figure themselves out. I was glad to see that despite Brody's gruff nature, that he could find it within himself to learn to forgive. Even if just a little bit.Shiloh is a breath of fresh air. I loved her feisty nature and her true appreciation for Brody's life and how only she could decipher the hesitance he had at getting close to someone. Even with all she had to deal with in her professional life, I adored how she stayed patient and caring of her cowboy and gave him her full attention even when he didn't necessarily want i. They are true kindred spirits with muddied pasts but the drive to be better for someone you can't help but love ends up being just what they both needed in order to truly live their best lives. Not to mention the insane amount of chemistry between them which lead to some amazingly sexy trysts. I'm not surprised they couldn't keep their hands off each other!This book had my stomach in knots on more than one occasion but to get to see Shiloh and Brody find their one true love despite all the crazy of her fame, his guilt and their inevitable separations, was worth every tear shed and every demon threatening to rear its ugly head. Add in the testy but endearing Ridge and the man I need to more about, one Bastian Cox (cheeky last name) and this was one incredible read.I do hope more is to come since Emery Rose has created a wonderful cast of characters that feel a bit like family now. I loved that we met his brother, Ridge, seeing Brody interact with his son, Noah. Noah is just the absolute cutest and had me laughing a few times. I loved how we still caught glimpses of the rest of the McAllister family.Brody is caring, has a heart of gold under his hard exterior, and an amazing father. Can’t forget about his dirty talking! We learned more about Brody’s past, the way he grew up, the things he went through, and my heart absolutely broke for him.Shiloh is feisty, strong, and goes after what she wants. I had a hard time connecting with her throughout this story, but once I learned everything she’s been through and the choices she’s had to make in life, my heart definitely went out to her.Shiloh and Brody’s connection and relationship is unique. They are complete opposites, but it’s easy to see how they are the calm to each other's storms. Their attraction is instant, and the banter between them is great. Shiloh quickly begins breaking down Brody’s walls, no matter how hard he tries to keep her out. They’re both drawn to each other, and can’t stay away.
